Motivation Monday

Happy Monday!  Another week is upon us and I have to say, I am pretty pumped for this week.  I’m really looking forward to this weekend because I’m going home to help my mom find a dress to wear to the wedding.  She has been shopping and found a couple dresses she likes but wants to get my opinion.  My mom, sister and I are the kind of shoppers who don’t shy away from an opinion (and that’s true for things other than shopping) and can tell immediately if we like something once it’s on.

In the spirit of shopping for the wedding, I’m motivated to eat extra healthy this week.  It’s my Motivation Monday.

The whole point of this blog is to document my journey from flab to fab for my upcoming wedding!  It’s time to kick it up a notch!

This week I am going to track my calories, via the blog and some online tools, work out hard and eat more fruits and veggies!  That’s my goal.

The motivation: DRESS!  DRESS!  DRESS!

No, this isn’t my dress, but you get the point! I want to look hot, hottie, hot and this week, my dress is serving as motivation!

What’s your motivation for working out and eating healthy?

Weekend Recap

I would have assumed that a nice weekend at home would be pretty relaxing.  Boy was I wrong!

Even though we were home (ie in Michigan), we were pretty much go, go, go all weekend.  Let’s recap the weekend:

Breakfast was 2 pieces of toast, 1 banana and chia seeds, with a side of hazelnut coffee.  {I just love my Chicago mug!}

Snacks included some Cheez-It’s and an apple.

There’s nothing like a lunchtime work out!  I did a quick 3 mile run at a 10:30 pace.  It was nice to actually do something active during the day.  It kept my spirit up for the rest of the afternoon.

And dinner was enjoyed on the balcony with a bottle of Chianti.  Oh so good!!  Dinner included: shrimp sauteed in olive oil, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and orzo with basil, cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese.  I also enjoyed a side salad of arugula/spinach blend and ranch dressing.  For dessert, a super old chocolate covered Oreo.  It was a great dinner with great conversation!

SATURDAY – The weekend began bright and early as we had to complete the natural family planning portion of our marriage prep.  It was pretty awful and I’ll write a whole recap on marriage prep in the Catholic church for those who are interested.

We ran to get some coffee before our day.  I ordered a cappuccino, which was perfect!!

After our meeting, we definitely needed some alcohol.  So, off to Buddy’s Pizza we went and enjoyed some Stella, a side salad and pizza with pepperoni and green peppers.  It was perfect!

After lunch, we ran some errands and even finalized our tux rentals for the wedding!!  It was unexpected but really necessary.  It feels so good to have that checked off the list!

We came home and I snacked on some cantaloupe.  Then, we watched This is 40 on demand, which was actually a good movie.  I drank a glass of Chianti and ate popcorn for dinner!  It was the perfect Saturday night spent snuggling on the couch and drinking vino.

SUNDAY – On the agenda, a run!  It was incredibly hot, like 80 degrees hot.  I wasn’t really looking forward to running in that hot heat, but I ran with 2 co-workers, which made it fun.  We completed 6 miles {we started wanting to do 9, but it was just too hot} and I’m not even going to tell you the time.  It wasn’t good.  TOO HOT!

I ate 2 pieces of toast with peanut butter and the remaining Cheez-It’s before the run, drank an entire Gatorade on the run and then starved for a few hours.

After my run, we ran to Macy’s to start our registry.  It was so much fun!  And we actually agreed on everything.  It was a nice surprise.  I’ll also be recapping our registry experiences.

Then, we went to Chipotle – I had 3 chicken tacos with chicken, lettuce, guac and cheese.  Of course, chips and guac were consumed.

I’m pretty exhausted just writing this post.   All in all, I’m pretty pleased with the way this weekend turned out – from all angles: food, exercise and quality time spent with the man!

What I’m Loving Wednesday

Happy Wednesday!!

Man, this week is flying by.  And boy do I have some great stuff to share this Wednesday.

Here are the 5 things I’m loving this week:

1. 98 Degrees’ new CD.  Apparently, I’m in a music kick.

Now, I will say that this CD is completely cheesy.  It definitely sounds like all their other albums, which seems a little weird since 3 of the 4 guys are married with children, but, what can I say, I love Nick Lachey!!!  In 6th grade, my “boyfriend” bought me a 98 Degrees book because I was so in love with them.  And since I’m from Cincinnati, I thought I could be Nick and Jessica 2.0.  Oh well.

2. MY LEGS!  This may sound really weird, but I have always really liked my legs.  I used to just like the look of my legs, but now I love the power my legs have.  The fact that my legs let me run for miles at one time, it makes me feel proud.  They may be short, but they are mighty!  I also love that my quads are getting stronger and I don’t feel them jiggle when I run.

3. My Bic Band headband!  Yes, this is me after my run today.  I bought the Boston Strong Bic Band a few weeks ago and today was the first day I wore it.  I’m always skeptical of products that they they won’t slip because they always do.  NOT BIC BANDS!  I ran 5 miles and it DID NOT move.  I will definitely be purchasing more of these in the future. #bostonstrong

4. Searching for wedding shoes.  I have very specific wants in a shoe: fun, sparkly, low heel for all night comfort and a fun brand that I wouldn’t normally buy.  I figure it, if I’m going to buy expensive shoes, they should be for the wedding!  The current front runners:

What do you guys think of these?

5. This video of the most precious puppies EVER!  My favorite is the smart wiener dog with the fetch contraption.  I am a sucker for puppy videos.

Motivation Monday

I mentioned yesterday that I’m going to start daily columns and….drum roll please….it’s time to start!

Here’s to the very first: Motivation Monday!

What’s motivating me today?

We decided back in January where we’ll be going for our honeymoon.  Do you have any guesses?

I am so excited to go to Aruba and lay out at that pool in the photo above.  We will be staying at the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort on Eagle Beach in Aruba.

The resort has a live camera where you can go and see what’s going on in Aruba!  The breeze, the palm trees and the beach chairs get me every time.  It serves as a great break when work gets crazy and serves as great motivation to get bikini ready.  I want to be sexy when I’m sitting on that beach and not feeling like a beached whale.

These photos are motivating me today.  So much so that I actually did some pilates on my rest day!

These bikini bodies are also serving as some motivation!

How’s that for motivation?  I know I’ll be having salad tonight…maybe 1 piece of pizza?

What’s motivating you this Monday?

6 Months to Go

Today, April 26, 2013 marks the 6 month countdown until our big day!

I seriously can’t believe it.  We got engaged on February 18, 2012 and it was absolutely, positively, hands down the best day of my life.

Our story is so wonderful – the man was living in Charleston and I went to visit him for a long weekend.  I had an inkling (more like a feeling of, “It better happen this weekend or else” kind of feeling) so I was went shopping for all new clothes and couldn’t wait to hop that plane!

We went for a walk on Saturday morning towards the pineapple bridge.  I was starving for breakfast and I’m not exactly the nicest person when I’m hungry, so when the man suggested we sit on a bench for a minute, I grumbled but obeyed.  We sat for 2 minutes, my limit for just sitting, and then wanted to get up and ask some people to take our picture.  He said, “Hold on a sec.  I have to ask you something.”

And onto his knee he went.

He said the most wonderful things and ended with, “Will you marry me?”

Of course I said yes and we’ve been in wedding planning mode ever since.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be his wife and to have his as my husband.  We’ve been together for so long (6.5 years to be exact) and I’m so grateful to have the most wonderful man in life.  We have so much fun together, can talk about anything and know that we’re nothing without each other.

So, here’s to the last 6 months as a single lady.  The last 6 months as a ‘me’ and not a ‘we.’  The last 6 months without a tax break.  The last 6 months with only 1 ring on my finger.  The last 6 months before the rest of my life starts!!

(Thanks for putting up with the sappiness.  I just really wanted to write that!!)  I leave you with some pictures from the engagement.  Yes – he had a friend take some pictures.  They are my all time favorites!

Mexican Thursday

Good Morning! Happy Friday. Sorry I was M.I.A. yesterday – we had our second meeting with the marriage counselor and I wasn’t feeling too great. I don’t know what’s been going on with my stomach but it has not been great this week, which doesn’t help my training! I decided to take a breather from exercise yesterday and plan on doing yoga tonight to stretch out everything before my 7 mile run on Saturday! Do you ever take breaks in your training based on how your body feels?

Since I didn’t recap my eats from Thursday, let’s jump into that!

BREAKFAST – Working from home definitely has it’s advantages. One of them being an actual breakfast!  I had 2 whole wheat Eggo waffles with peanut butter and grapes.  (Side note: how messy is my kitchen table?  I know what I’ll be doing this weekend!)

LUNCH – Have I mentioned that we don’t have any food in the house?  Oh, only about 300 times!  So lunch today was an interesting one.  We had shredded cheese and tortillas, so I made a cheese quesidilla with a dollop of sour cream and some chips with a little bit of salsa.  I ate lunch while watching the finale of The Rachel Zoe ProjectI really do like Rachel, but her “Oh my God’s” are starting to get on my nerves.  And, who names their son Skyler?

DINNER – To keep with the Mexican theme of the day, the man and I went to his favorite restaurant ever: Chipotle!  It serves as somewhat of a reward for surviving our pre-marriage counseling.  (that’s a whole other topic)!  I ordered a burrito bowl with chicken, guac, cheese and lettuce.  I know, I know, it probably wasn’t the best thing to eat when my stomach hurts, but it was free (gift card courtesy of the man’s Easter basket) and available.  And the total calories of a burrito bowl: 575.  That’s not horrible.  You can add 290 calories if you get the burrito!  (Courtesy of: Chipotle Nutrition).

If only I ordered my burrito bowl in Spanish, then it would have been a really Mexican day.  One problem: I don’t speak Spanish.  The man does, so that will help if we ever go to Spain!!

I’ll see you all later on tonight! I have a pretty great post coming…

Saturday Wrap-Up

Whoa!  Saturday FLEW by!  I really just wanted to sit and watch tv, but that didn’t happen.  I woke up around 9:30, ate breakfast and then decided to go to the gym!

BREAKFAST – Time for a carb load before an intense work out!  I toasted a blueberry bagel and topped with strawberry cream cheese.  On the side, hazelnut coffee!

Give peace a chance!

I definitely needed the carbs!

EXERCISE – I worked my butt off at the gym today!  I did 45-minutes on the arc trainer on interval level 3, which was intense!  I was sweating like crazy!

2 minutes at 25 resistance, 1 minute at 35

And, I listened to Pandora 90’s pop music, which was the inspiration of the name of the total body circuit I did.

I was also inspired by Julie over at Peanut Butter Fingers.  She has all these amazing circuit work outs that will keep you moving and your heart pumping.  Go on over and take a look!

I had to take a few breaks completing this work out, but I have to admit, I’m so glad I did it!  I wrote the work out down in a notebook, so I had a guide.  It’s definitely something I will try to continue.  The 90’s Pandora station kept me grooving.  Here are some gems that popped up – nothing like some old school Britney and N’Sync!

 IMG_0528 IMG_0527

I stretched it out and came home.  I hopped in the shower and then it was time to run some errands!

We ran to Barnes & Noble to pick up a little gift for my hostess when I go to Chicago this weekend (so excited)!  We picked up a Starbucks hazelnut maachiato while we were.  So worth it!  Our agenda was to look at tuxes for the wedding….well, that was horrible.  We went to Men’s Warehouse and Jos. A Bank.  Jos. A Bank only had books to look at and Men’s Warehouse didn’t have the right size.  But, we’re one step closer.  At least we know the look we’re going for! 🙂

LUNCH – As his reward to doing some wedding, we decided to stop by Chipotle.  I can usually be persuaded to grab some chips and guac but I was starving!  I ordered 3 crispy chicken tacos with lettuce, sour cream and cheese.  Very child-like but a classic.  We split chips and guac as well.  What is it about the guac?!

oldie but a goodie

We got a call from some friends who wanted to meet up for a drink, so we went and I had 1 sangria.  It was great to hang out and laugh with a great group of people!  We only wanted to stay for a little while, but it was 9:15 when we looked at our watches for the first time.  We came home and passed out!  What a Saturday.  With the late lunch, we didn’t eat dinner so I’m okay with how the day went!

How’s your weekend going?
