Fashion Friday {Nicole Kidman}

I have recently started reading Refinery 29which is a blog that looks like a magazine.

According to the web site, “Refinery 29 isn’t just about fashion – it’s a lens for millions of women, everyday, to discover their best personal style and feel as good as they look.”

It’s a great web site that is organized well and gives great insights into fashion trends.

They also do a ‘Best Dressed’ of the month and I couldn’t agree more with their pick for May: Nicole Kidman.

I mean, she is flawless.

And really into the cream color.

I’ve never loved many movies Nicole Kidman has been in, except Cold Mountain or Moulin Rouge, but I think she is someone who is getting better with age.  I don’t necessarily love the look of the stone cold face, but she looks striking.

A Mexican Thursday

TGIF! I seriously can’t believe it is Friday. This week flew by, in a good way.

The weather here in Southeast Michigan has been a roller coaster. One day its 85 degrees and the next its raining and 40. It’s been horrible for my mood and my allergies. Yesterday it got dark all of a sudden, started pouring rain and then stopped 5 minutes later. I guess that’s what happens with summer thunderstroms, but it makes me just want to curl up in a ball and watch a movie on the couch. I wonder what I’ll be doing this weekend?!

Let’s dive into how I fueld my body yesterday. Side note: I normally don’t look at food as fuel, but rather as a delicious event that fills my soul.

BREAKFAST – A quick and easy breakfast is always on my mind. So, a banana and a granola bar is definitely a constant choice.

I know I’ve said that these granola bars are really small, but I bought them and need to finish them.

LUNCH – One of the positive of working form home on certain days is being able to make what I want for lunch.  I was in the mood for some cheese, so I made a cheese quesadilla in a whole wheat tortilla, a side of light sour cream and strawberries.  It was surprisingly filling.

I kept working throughout the afternoon and then it was time for a snack.

SNACK – Some yummy cottage cheese.

In hindsight, this wasn’t a good choice for me.  About an hour after eating this, I headed to the gym for some fitness.  I had it in my mind that I would do some cardio on the elliptical and then weights.  Well, my body had other insights.

I got on the elliptical (side note: the woman next to me was wearing a top that was mesh in the back and no bra….) and after about 3 minutes my stomach started cramping up like you wouldn’t believe.  I wanted to push through it, but after 20 minutes, I just couldn’t keep going.  I got off and did some stretching.  It wasn’t a great work out, but I had to listen to my body.  I had a thought that I was lactose-intolerent because of this, but I’m not sure.  Do you run into these issues?

DINNER – I sat on the couch for an hour before it was dinner time.  I wasn’t really hungry, but knew I’d be starving if I didn’t eat.  So…tacos!  Talk about a Mexican day.

I made a taco salad with romaine lettuce, ground chuck, 2 crispy taco shells, a few cherry tomatoes, 2 dollops of sour cream and some cheese.  It was delicious.  I love how the shells add crunch to the salad.  It’s much needed.

What I’m Loving Wednesday {Random Edition}

I love short work weeks.  There’s something about being able to know that you only have a few days to get the same amount of work done.  It makes me more productive!

But, I have to be honest.  I’ve had a lot on my mind the past couple of weeks.  I can’t mention them now, but I’ll be sure to mention them when I can.  So today’s What I’m Wearing Wednesday is pretty random because my mind is jumbled!

1. I’m loving my dress I purchased for my bridal showers, bachelorette and rehearsal dinner!  It’s very similar to the bridesmaids’ dress, except its short and ivory.  It’s a convertible dress so I only had to purchase 1 dress but can wear it a bunch of different ways and no one will know….except for the fact that I’m telling everyone!

2. The Divine Addiction –  This website is written by Lisa Vanderpump’s daughter, Pandora.  They have great class and I’ve just discovered it.  There are articles on fashion, beauty, recipes, workouts and guides to LA.  It’s worth a read.

3. Arrested Development on Netflix – I wasn’t a huge devotee of the show originally, but with all the hype, we started watching it.  It is an unique and funny show and I was pretty excited to watch the newly released season.  We watched 2 episodes and my favorite part was that Kristen Wiig and Seth Rogan play characters!!  Love them!

And that’s it…only 3 this week because I’m so exhausted and wrapped up in my own world.  Sorry about everything.  I promise I’ll share everything when I can!

To Tired to Work Out?

The past few days have been absolutely exhausting.  On Monday, we drove back to Detroit from Chicago and all we wanted to do was curl up and watch TV.  And then, Tuesday was getting back into the groove of work and having zero food in the fridge.

That also meant that work outs haven’t happened.  I’m not sore from the long run on Saturday, but I definitely just haven’t felt up to going to the gym.  I can feel a difference in my muscles (or lack there of) and I’m sure the lack of energy comes from the lack of exercising.  I promise I’ll get back to it!

MONDAY – Car rides are never ones that promote healthy eating…

So, I started the day with a grande skinny hazelnut maachiato from the hotel Starbucks.  Oh so amazing.

And then it was time for lunch, so we swung by a Moe’s, which is kinda like Chipotle.  There are a few more options at Moe’s but it’s quite delicious.

I ordered the fish tacos, which, to my surprise, only has 360 calories per serving.  #score

The best part was that the tacos came with a small lime wedge to spread over the tacos.  (Sorry for the extremely blurry picture).

When we got home, I watched some Real Housewives of New Jersey and then ate a Panera strawberry poppyseed salad. And ,yes, I ate it in bed while watching the newly released Arrested Development.  #dontjudgeme

TUESDAY – I just couldn’t fall asleep Monday night, which meant that I didn’t have the greatest day on Tuesday.  The weather has been crazy here!  It’s gone from 85 degrees to Tuesday being about 50 degrees and rainy.  It’s horrible for my allergies and my spirit.

For breakfast, I had a leftover granola bar, which was stolen from my aunt’s pantry, or as we call it, the 7/11 because it’s full of all kinds of snacks!

And when it came time to eat lunch, when you have nothing in the fridge, and only about 15 minutes to eat, you go for fast food!

I went to Wendy’s with a co-worker and I ordered a homestyle chicken sandwich, a chili on the side and a lemonade.  It was delicious and absolutely kept me full for the rest of the afternoon.

I had several snacks on Tuesday.  A few chocolate chips, 1 pita pocket and Cheez-Its.  (See the housewives?)

When it was time for dinner, neither of us felt like going full-blown grocery shopping, so we meandered to Whole Foods where I got a sushi roll and some sparkling lime water.  #delicious

I will get a good night’s sleep tonight and I will go work out!  I’m exhausted already!

As I was watching the Real Housewives of Orange County today, Tamra gave an emotional speech at a women’s expo.  It was really heartfelt about her life.  She closed her speech with a great motivational quote, “Strong is the new skinny.”

Since I’m in full blown training for the Chicago Women’s Half Marathon, I am definitely noticing a difference in my body and it’s strength.  I used to look at my legs as a nice body part, but now I look at them as the vehicles to allow me to finish my 13.1 miles on June 23rd!

I’m starting to transition my mind speak from negative to positive.  It’s about being strong and pushing your body to limits you never thought possible.

See, Tamra Barney and the Real Housewives can be a positive experience.

Motivation Monday {Yoga Edition}

It’s still Monday and after a long weekend of wine drinking and eating everything in sight, this week’s Motivation Monday surrounds my longing to bring back yoga into my life.

Before I started training for the Chicago Women’s Half Marathon, I would do yoga at least once a week.  Yoga is great for stretching out my muscles and I should have been practicing while training!  It’s hard to keep up with some other practice when you’re running hours at a time.

I started doing some Google-ing on the benefits of yoga and how yoga and running should work together.  I found out some interesting things!

  • According to Dr. Oz, yoga helps clean blood of waste and trains us to loosen our muscles we ignore in our normal days.
  • Yoga helps de clutter your mind.  < This is why I need yoga!
  • Increases flexibility. < I could barely touch my toes in high school…now I can!  If your muscles aren’t flexible, you are more likely to get fatigued earlier in your run.
  • Your digestive track gets regulated through yoga.

I know these aren’t ground-breaking discoveries, but it’s always helpful for me to research as motivation.

My motivation for doing yoga this week is to de clutter my mind and regulate my digestive track!  I have a lot weighing on my mind as of late and I really need to relax!  If you’re interested in yoga, you can go to classes at your local gym, your local Lululemon store (it’s free!), local studios or a DVD in your living room.

This week, I plan on doing a class at my gym and the Body by Bethenny DVD.

Long Weekends are the Best

Happy Memorial Day!  First and foremost, I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to all the men and women who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces.  America’s people are free because of you.

This Memorial Day weekend was spent in Chicago, IL for my cousin’s high school graduation.  No one loves the actual graduation ceremony, but it is so special to celebrate one of the greatest accomplishments!  I was 7 when my cousin was born and I have seen him grow up into a wonderful young man.  Boy, how time flies!!

FRIDAY – Working from home is a large perk of my current job.  I am taking a few online training courses and it’s so much nicer to do that from the couch then at a desk.

The other positives, Keurig for breakfasts!

When lunch rolled around, I heated up some baked ziti.  It was quite delicious.

And then I had my favorite snack of all time – peanut butter and apples.

Another snack – some kettle chips.  I watched Real Housewives of New Jersey re-runs on Bravo.  (In case you were wondering, the new season starts June 2!)

When dinner time rolled around, neither of us wanted to cook.  So, we got into the car and headed to Smash Burger.

I ordered a grilled chicken cobb sandwich, which was supposed to have avocado on it!  It didn’t.  And, I’m still upset about it!  But the sandwich was actually really, really good.  I did have a few fries, too.  The night was spent lounging on the couch and hanging out.  We had an early morning the next day.

SATURDAY – I woke up early for a Saturday (like 7:15) to run 10 miles.

Before the run, I snacked on 2 graham crackers and some peanut butter.

This pre-run snack actually held me over for the entire 2 hours of running.  #impressive

The run was great!  It was only about 45 degrees and the sun was coming up, it was great.  Once I hit mile 4.5, I was cruisin’.  It’s definitely getting me excited for the race!!

Then it was time to hit the road to Chicago….But first, a stop to Panera.

I ordered a hazelnut coffee and a cinnamon scone.  I only had a few bites of the scone but it was delicious!  I ate my scone while reading the latest issue of Marie Clare.  I love that magazine because it’s not just about fashion, it also reports on world issues.

And then, 5 hours later, we arrived in Chicago!!  When we got to my aunt and uncle’s house, we chowed down one appetizers, including hummus and corn dip.  I also made myself 2 vodka tonics.  Gotta love a full bar!

Dinner was delicious, except I didn’t eat the main course.  It was pulled pork sandwiches and BBQ sauce and my stomach just do not agree.  So, I had some Portillo’s salad, some potato salad and 2 deviled eggs.  Of course, chocolate cake was devoured!

SUNDAY – Graduation Day!!  We awoke early in the morning and chowed down on some yummy breakfast!  I had some egg bake, fruit, a little bit of monkey bread and a chocolate-covered peanut butter bar, with a side of orange juice.  So yummy!

Then we headed off to graduation, which was pretty long with 600+ kids in the class.  With a last name towards the end of the alphabet, we made sure to bring snacks!!!

This picture shows the gushers wrapper under our seats…there were also some granola bar wrappers. Hey, we had to sit for a long time!

My family and I went back to our hotel for some appetizers before heading over to my cousin’s graduation dinner.  My mom, sister and I split a bottle of Prosecco and we ordered a cheese board and some hummus dips.

I had a little bit of everything.  It was amazing.  It was great to sit around with family, tell funny stories about Corey and my uncle gave a heartfelt speech.  It was relaxing and perfect!
