Toasty Tuesday

Here’s to the very first Toasty Tuesday!  Tuesday’s weekly column is for a quick discussion about what’s making my heart toasty lately.

What’s making my heart all warm inside this week?!

If you watch Ellen, you already know who Sophia Grace and Rosie are, if you don’t, they are these 2 adorable girls from England who are incredible singers.

Here are some YouTube videos of them singing.  Absolutely incredible.  Enjoy!  Happy Tuesday!

Giada is the Best

Hello All! Happy (rainy) Tuesday. It’s pouring rain and I got stuck in it on my way back from lunch. A great day to wear a white sweater, huh?

Yesterday was a rest day and I’ve noticed that I definitely use these days to my advantage. I came from work last night, watched Married to Jonas , completed a pilates DVD and read my US Weekly. It was glorious!

Now, let’s dig into what I ate yesterday.

BREAKFAST – Breakfast yesterday came together quickly thanks to some prep the night before.  I had some overnight oats, made with old fashioned rolled oats, 1% organic milk, chia seeds, peanut butter and cinnamon.  Oh so good!

I should have added a little mor milk to the mix because it was a little crunchy, but I was able to devour the whole thing.  I also had a banana on the side.

I plugged away at work for the remainder of the morning, and then went to a local grocery store, Busch’s, with a co-worker.  I love this grocery store because they offer free coffee and doughnut holes to customers.  Even though I didn’t buy anything, I took part in the doughnut holes!  (Well, only 1)!

When I came back to the office, I was more than ready for my sandwich!

LUNCH – I had a salami sandwich on wheat bread and 1 tsp of light mayo.  Now, I realize this isn’t the healthiest of lunches, but the man likes salami and I don’t want it to go to waste.

The sandwich didn’t keep me full for very long and I was pretty much starving by the time I got home.  I snacked on some kettle chips while I cleaned out the DVR.  These held me over until it was time to make dinner!

DINNER – I have to give a huge shout out to Giada for her unbelieveable Weeknights with Giada cookbook.  Not only are the photos goregous in this cookbook, every single recipe seems delicious and doesn’t take a lot of time, making for great meals on weeknights (hence the name).

I found a recipe for carmelized onion, sausage and basil pizza and used that last night!

The pizza didn’t take too long, thanks to the store-bought pizza dough.  Cooking the onions took the longest time – 25 minutes total – but while those were cooking, I made the sausage on the stove.  The recipe calls for gorgonzola or blue cheese, but the man doesn’ t like those, so I substituted mozzarella.  It was oh so delicious.

I had 2 pieces of pizza and a side salad with spinach, cherry tomatoes and ranch dressing.  It was so good.  And there’s nothing like some candlelight to add some romance to a Monday!

Yummy pizza we’ll definitely be making again!!

Motivation Monday

I mentioned yesterday that I’m going to start daily columns and….drum roll please….it’s time to start!

Here’s to the very first: Motivation Monday!

What’s motivating me today?

We decided back in January where we’ll be going for our honeymoon.  Do you have any guesses?

I am so excited to go to Aruba and lay out at that pool in the photo above.  We will be staying at the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort on Eagle Beach in Aruba.

The resort has a live camera where you can go and see what’s going on in Aruba!  The breeze, the palm trees and the beach chairs get me every time.  It serves as a great break when work gets crazy and serves as great motivation to get bikini ready.  I want to be sexy when I’m sitting on that beach and not feeling like a beached whale.

These photos are motivating me today.  So much so that I actually did some pilates on my rest day!

These bikini bodies are also serving as some motivation!

How’s that for motivation?  I know I’ll be having salad tonight…maybe 1 piece of pizza?

What’s motivating you this Monday?

Lazy Sunday

Good Afternoon, all. I hope your Monday is off to a great start! What did you think of my earlier post this morning? I’m really excited about the daily columns and am ready to jump in!

Let’s discuss Sunday’s eats, shall we?

BREAKFAST – I woke up late (like 11 am late!) and I wasn’t exactly hungry from the night beofre.  So, I had 2 pieces of whole grain bread with peanut butter.  An oldie but a goodie!

I basically sat on the couch all morning early afternoon recovering from the 7 mile run the day before.  I iced my knees because they hurt like crazy and my shoulders hurt, but I think that’s because I was holding that Gatorade the whole time!

I watched The Devil Wears Prada, which is an all-time favorite.  I mean, how great is Meryl Streep?  I probably wouldn’t like working for someone like that on the daily, but to have access to that fashion closet?  That might be worth it!

SNACK – I chommped on some kettle chips while watching the movie and making the list for our grocery store run!

The grocery store trip went really well!  We spent a decent amount of money, but we aren’t eating out at all this week, except for one dinner for me, which I’m really excited about and will tell you all about afterwards!

One thing we did buy at the store: CHOCOLATE MILK!  When was the last time you had chocolate milk?  I can’t remember either, but it is glorious.  According to an article from Fitness Magazine, chocolate milk is a great post-workout option because it is a “catch-all recovery drink.”  It has a great balance of carbs and protein that are great to recover those tired muscles.  Even though I didn’t workout, I wanted chocolate milk.

DINNER – Caprese pasta.  This recipe is easily our favorite dinner.  It’s super easy, quick and reminds us of Italy.  I made Barilla Plus penne pasta (I actually measured out 1 cup of pasta, the serving size), cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, olive oil, basil leaves and salt and pepper.  It’s basically a caprese salad with pasta.  So delicious!  And, I had a glass of white wine.  All in all, a great dinner!

I really like the Barilla Plus because it has more omega-3’s, protein and fiber than regular white pasta.  Score!

We watched Dinner for Smucks while eating dinner, and I have to say, it was horrible.  I love Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd, but this movie was so stupid.  I seriously felt like I lost some intelligence after watching.

DESSERT – I was a little hungry before bed, so I had another piece of whole wheat bread with peanut butter and chocolate chips.  Amazing!

Happy Monday!  Check back tonight for my Motivational Monday post!

New Idea: Daily Columns

Hi All.  I haven’t been writing this blog for very long but I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d like to post twice daily: once with my meals and exercise and once on a topic of interest to me.

I want to use my blog as a way to track/record my road to getting fit and fabulous for my wedding day, as well as a place for healthy living inspiration, wedding discussions and what it’s like to be a young women in corporate America/a sales world dominated by men!  Run4Vino is the balance between health, life and work.

Let’s jump into a new idea.  I want to blog twice a day: once recapping my daily exercise & eats and then once with a post surrounding topics of interest to me: weddings, fashion, work/life balance and healthy living in general.

To make things consistent, I thought it’d be fun to have a daily topic focus – or Daily Columns.

70’s on 7

Happy Sunday!!  It’s my all-time favorite day.  You can sleep in, still have alcohol mimosas at brunch and laying on the couch all day is completely acceptable.

This weekend was a great one.  It was extremely relaxing – Friday night, I stayed home alone watching T.V. and going to sleep early.  It was glorious.  Saturday, I woke up, hung out with the man and then met a friend to run 7 miles!  (More on that later).  Then we went to grab margaritas!  Absolutely wonderful.

FRIDAY – The beginning of the weekend was great.  Work was pretty good, I ate some good eats and cleaned out the DVR.  Breakfast was an apple.  Lunch was a chopped salad with ranch dressing.  It was amazing.  The next picture is of my open sunroof.  The first open sunroof of 2013!!  Oh, then I had a few Oreo’s.  For dinner, I had whole wheat rigatoni with butter and shredded mozzarella cheese.  I spent my Friday night watching some of my favorite Bravo shows over a glass of white wine.  For dessert, I had the last piece of cake in bed.  What is it about eating food in bed that is so delicious?

SATURDAY – What a great day Saturday was!  Not only was it gorgeous weather, delicious margaritas were devoured.  For breakfast, I had 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with peanut butter, an apple and hazelnut coffee.  Then I had some Sun Chips!  For a pre-run snack, I had a mozzarella cheese stick.  Dinner after the run was chips and guacamole, Georgia Peach margaritas and I split my entree with a friend.  It was a quesadilla with chicken, bacon, cheese and avocado, which was then covered with sour cream.  It was delicious and I’m so glad we split it!!

THE RUN – I was supposed to run 7 miles on Saturday, which is what we did.  I swung by a running store to pick up some Gu and a nice running fanny pack!  I had a chocolate Gu on the run, which was amazing.  I also grabbed a Gatorade because I don’t think I drank enough water before hand.

I like my fanny pack.  It’s pink!

I learned a lot of things on my run yesterday.

  • It was 70 degrees – that is too hot for my body.  I’ve fainted 3 times in my life, 2 of which were because I got overheated during exercise.  I really need to watch how I feel while I exercise.  I could feel myself getting hot if there wasn’t a breeze, so I ran pretty slowly.
  • I need to practice hills!   There were some step hills on the run and I walked up those hills because I was exhausted and hot.  That was the only walking I did, but I need to build up my endurance for the race!
  • I can’t carry anything while running.  I put my Gu and car keys in my new fanny pack, but I held the Gatorade in my hand. It was surprisingly heavy.  So, note to self: I really need to drink about 3 times more water during the day when I have to run that far.
  • I can finish anything if I put my mind to it.  Even though I was insanely tired and hot, I finished the run!  It took me a total of 1:21:30, which is about 11:39 average pace.  This pace isn’t horrible since I walked up the hills.  I would say my average running pace was 10:24, which is a little slower than my goal for race day.

I’m proud of myself for running that far and not giving up and turning around.  That’s all that matters.  I’m a little sore today, mostly in my knees and shoulders – I’m sure that means I was running with my shoulders up .  Now it’s time to relax before heading to the grocery store.

How were your runs this weekend?

6 Months to Go

Today, April 26, 2013 marks the 6 month countdown until our big day!

I seriously can’t believe it.  We got engaged on February 18, 2012 and it was absolutely, positively, hands down the best day of my life.

Our story is so wonderful – the man was living in Charleston and I went to visit him for a long weekend.  I had an inkling (more like a feeling of, “It better happen this weekend or else” kind of feeling) so I was went shopping for all new clothes and couldn’t wait to hop that plane!

We went for a walk on Saturday morning towards the pineapple bridge.  I was starving for breakfast and I’m not exactly the nicest person when I’m hungry, so when the man suggested we sit on a bench for a minute, I grumbled but obeyed.  We sat for 2 minutes, my limit for just sitting, and then wanted to get up and ask some people to take our picture.  He said, “Hold on a sec.  I have to ask you something.”

And onto his knee he went.

He said the most wonderful things and ended with, “Will you marry me?”

Of course I said yes and we’ve been in wedding planning mode ever since.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be his wife and to have his as my husband.  We’ve been together for so long (6.5 years to be exact) and I’m so grateful to have the most wonderful man in life.  We have so much fun together, can talk about anything and know that we’re nothing without each other.

So, here’s to the last 6 months as a single lady.  The last 6 months as a ‘me’ and not a ‘we.’  The last 6 months without a tax break.  The last 6 months with only 1 ring on my finger.  The last 6 months before the rest of my life starts!!

(Thanks for putting up with the sappiness.  I just really wanted to write that!!)  I leave you with some pictures from the engagement.  Yes – he had a friend take some pictures.  They are my all time favorites!
