Twisted Tuesday

Wow – Tuesday went by so quickly!  The weather in Detroit late in the day was pretty much a winter wonderland.  I wanted to go to the Slow Burn yoga class at the gym, but the roads were so bad, I didn’t want to risk it.  Have no fear, though!  I completed Body by Bethenny DVD!  Way to go, me!

BREAKFAST – Breakfast yesterday was pretty standard – a yogurt and a banana.

The last of the yogurts

I kept on trucking at work and by around 11 am, I got a little hungry, so I ate a Kashi bar!

The roads were getting pretty bad around lunch time with sleeting rain falling and boy do I hate to drive in bad weather (who doesn’t)!  By the time I got home, I was starving!

LUNCH – I had a pretty simple lunch.  Some turkey slices with havarti cheese, berries and SmartFood white cheddar popcorn!  Delicious!

Simple is better

Does anyone else use mixing bowls as serving bowls?

I worked, worked, worked until about 5:15 and then decided to do yoga while watching The Biggest Loser.  There is something about that show that is addicting and inspiring.

DINNER  – After our wonderful Mexican experience, the man and I were both craving some tacos.  I made some homemade guac and had a taco salad.  (or as he calls it, “Turko” because I used turkey meat)

Homemade guac and chips (see the mixing bowls again)!

Taco salad – romaine lettuce, turkey meat, cheddar cheese, a little dollop of light Daisy sour cream and guac on top!

DESSERT – One Dove dark chocolate.  It’s good for the heart!

Again, I’m quite pleased with yesterday’s activities.  I felt full and satisfied.  I’m actually a little sore from yoga.  Extra bonus!!

Back on Track

How was your Monday?  Monday’s are always crazy for me – filled with status meetings and updates and sometimes it’s hard to fit in eating correctly and exercising.  But yesterday, I did it!!

Let’s just dive right in:

BREAKFAST – yesterday started off correctly with a yummy banana.

such a great way to start the day

LUNCH – Leftover chicken, rice and snap peas heated in the microwave.  Can you tell I just at lunch at my desk?

SNACK – About an hour later I was in desperate need for some caffeine.  So I opted to stop by Starbucks and walk around Whole Foods, one of my all time favorite activities!

One Tall Skinny Carmel Macchiato, please!

At Whole Foods, I bought some Kashi bars!

Trail Mix!

EXERCISE – I stuck to my schedule and went to the gym for some cardio and legs.  I jumped on the treadmill, but about half a mile in, my foot started to hurt and I just seriously couldn’t run anymore!  How pathetic.  The one day I’m ready for some cardio and it’s horrible!  I was able to finish 1 mile and you know what, that’s better than nothing.  Then I went over to the free weights area and I completed the following:

  • Calf Raises
  • Squats
  • Dead Lifts
  • Stretches

Nothing too outrageous or strenuous, but it counts!

DINNER – Dinner tonight was absolutely wonderful. My man was craving some Italian sausage, so the below came about:

Hello Sweet Tea!

Italian Sausage, Barilla Plus rotini pasta, orange, red and green peppers topped with parmesan cheese.  Delicious!!

All in all, I’m pleased with this Monday.  I should mention that I did eat one HIT cookie at the checkout at the grocery store…but it was free.  If it doesn’t count in my real bank account, should it count in my calorie bank account?  I think not!

Weekly Roundup

Happy Monday!  Is it just me or do you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the weekend and too many during the week?

This weekend was a great one.  My parents came to visit and we ate at several restaurants that we’ve been wanting to try.
Friday – we had dinner at home with some fish my mom and I picked up from Whole Foods and some pretty yummy white wine.
Saturday – dinner at Bario Tacos & Tequila.  Wow.  Not only was it super delicious, but it was fast.  We ordered some guac and then our entrees and they arrived a few minutes after the guac.  My mom and I split the fish tacos and I sipped on a delicious sangria.  Bario has the biggest tequila list I’ve ever seen.  The guac was served in a mochachete which was super fun!

Sunday – we went to Chammps because the man & my dad wanted to watch sports.  I ordered a steak salad.

MENU – Here’s what I’m thinking for a menu this week:

  • Italian Sausage Sandwiches with Peppers
  • Taco Night – our Mexican experience got us in the mood
  • Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
  • Leftover Lasagna with Green Beans

WORK OUTS – My friend and I signed up for another half marathon (a post will come soon) so this week will consist of seeing where I am in terms of how much training I need to do.  Also, with my dress fitting this past weekend, it’s time to kick everything up a notch!

  • Monday – Run with circuit training focusing on arms and abs
  • Tuesday – Slow Burn Yoga 5:45
  • Wednesday – Rest
  • Thursday – Some cardio and legs
  • Friday – Rest
  • Saturday – (National Marquette Day!) Yoga at 10
  • Sunday – (The Lion King!) Long Run

Looks like it’s going to be a tough week! I’m ready. What’s on your plate this week?

I know, again, I have slacked.  This is a pattern for me.  I start something with every intention of doing something everyday (healthy eating, exercise, reading that one book, watching the AFC Top 100 movies of all time) but then after a week of doing it, I stop.  There’s no rhyme or reason, I guess I’m really just lazy.

This is definitely apparent with this blog.  I need to make it a TOP priority.  Not only so I can lose the weight, but to give me a creative outlet.  I love writing and feel better about myself when I write.

I now have the greatest motivation in the whole world! 🙂  On Saturday, I tried on my dress!!!!!!  It is absolutely gorgeous.  And it fit…I mean it zipped…but will definitely look amazing when I drop 7-10 pounds.  I don’t want to feel uncomfortable on the big day.  I want to know that I will look great from every angle.  And, the honeymoon is basically right after and I’ll be wearing a bathing suit…is that motivation or what?

Here’s some motivational photos.  What are your motivational photos?

I loved Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey together. And here she’s still busty but thin. That’s my ultimate goal.

Reese Witherspoon – she’s petite and gorgeous. She got into running…mental note!

A Great Start

Yesterday, was our one year engaged-versary.  It was the best day of my entire life and I can’t believe it was a year ago already.  Time has flown and we’re about 8 months away from the big day. Time to kick the fitness into high gear!

Onto the meals from yesterday:

BREAKFAST – I started off the day with a vanilla yogurt!

Do you see a pattern?

SNACK –  A Cutie!  Boy do I love these things! 🙂

LUNCH – At the grocery, we bought this delicious Italian bread and all I wanted was a turkey sandwich.  So, I had some turkey, American cheese, light mayo and Italian bread with an apple on the side.

I toasted the bread!

DINNER – I had a special dinner in mind – homemade lasagna (my family has a special recipe for sauce) with green beans and a salad.  We cracked open a bottle of vino from our trip to Italy that was absolutely amazing.  It may not have been the greatest dinner health-wise, but my taste buds were so pleased

A wonderful romantic dinner

EXERCISE – I did Bethenny’s Skinnygirl workout DVD.  I did 20 minutes, which wasn’t a lot but I needed to do something and had to make the lasagna.  I’m glad I did something and I needed the stretching!

I did the yoga in the dark!

Weekly Roundup

Today, I did my meal planning, grocery shopping and went the gym.  You can see my workout on my previous post.

On Wednesday, I got a wonderful phone call from the store where I purchase THE dress!  My dress came in!!!!  It worked out that my parents are coming to stay with us this weekend anyway, so I scheduled a time to go try it on next Saturday.  I can’t wait to try it on.  I haven’t seen it since I bought it in August and I hope I still love it.  I’m also excited to see if my work is noticeable and how much more work I still need to do!

Meal Plan for Week of February 17:

  • Homemade Fish Sticks with mac and cheese and broccoli
  • Lasagna
  • Chicken with snap peas and rice
  • Italian sausage with bell pepper sandwiches

Work out Schedule:

  • Sunday – cardio and arms
  • Monday – Yoga at home (Bethenny DVD)
  • Tuesday – Cardio and legs
  • Wednesday – Rest
  • Thursday – Slow Burn Yoga at 7
  • Friday – Rest (My Parents are coming!!)
  • Saturday – Quick Run and weights…Dress Appointment!

Here’s to a great week 🙂

First off, I’m sorry that I’ve been M.I.A. for the past few days.  There are no excuses just a lovely Valentine’s date night, a lazy Saturday and constant chocolate eating.

Now, I realize that chocolate is probably the last thing I need, but 1). it’s Valentine’s month where chocolate is everywhere and 2). it’s almost my lady time and there are no rules when it comes to that time.

Let’s do a quick recap of the foods that I actually did take pictures of from the past few days as I eat the remaining peanut butter M&M’s that the man got for me for Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day started healthy: vanilla yogurt

Then I had one Dove chocolate

Side Note: I woke up on Thursday, went to the bathroom and saw a lovely note one Dove chocolate.  Then, I went to fix my coffee for the morning – a Dove chocolate on my thermos.  I went to grab a Cutie – a Dove chocolate.  I got into my car – a Dove chocolate on the dash and three on the gear shifter.  I have always said chocolate is better than flowers and boy did he deliver this Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s continued healthy with a banana (with a huge bruise)!

Then the turn: Panera chips

Half of a half a Valentine’s cupcake with red candy frosting…delish!

A full blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese

Friday night, the man and I went to a wonderful Italian dinner.  We split a bottle of amazing Montipuciano red wine, some amazing bread and I had a Cesar salad and then some lobster ravioli!  It was great to not only share a wonderful meal but wonderful conversation.  It’s great to reconnect and know that we have the best time together.  I was glad that I snuck in a run at the gym earlier!

Imitating my dad taking a picture of a wine label

Saturday – We did absolutely nothing!  I watched Newlyweds on DVD (I wish they could have worked it out!) and got sushi take out.  It was a perfect Saturday

Sunday – I went to the gym.  Here’s what I did:

  • 10 minute run on the treadmill
  • 20 minutes on the Arc trainer
  • Slut machine, 12 reps, 3 times (does anyone else love the slut machine AKA the hip abductor!)
  • Lateral Pulls, 12 reps, 3 times
  • Arm extensions, 12 reps, 3 times
  • Bicep Curls, 8 reps, 3 times
  • Ab Twists, 60 reps
  • Donkey Kicks, 12 reps per side, 3 times
  • Stretching

Final product: homemade fish sticks, mac and cheese with broccoli

These homemade fish sticks were delicious!  And a Giada recipe, so easy!
